Houston County, Alabama, Heritage
Volunteers Needed
The wonderful thing about the Internet is that it enables us to participate in organizations and events that sometimes health and circumstance might deny. Listed below are projects that need doing. They would of course require time, but sometimes that is something that lays heavy on our hands and we need an opportunity to make a difference. Please consider taking on one of the tasks below. Remember it is in the smallest detail that the individual comes alive...hobbies, habits, nuances of speech, songs they love, music, color of clothing, vehicle they drive, illnesses they endured or passed away from, their passion in life and their faith. Pictures of many of these founding fathers/mothers are in the church histories. Your project can be as small as volunteering to scan some documents already at Landmarks to writing your own family history to place there to writing a bigger history like those mentioned below.
Send your scanned pictures and biographies in every category to Sharman Ramsey, Marty Oliff (Archivist at TSUD), Frank Gaines and William Holman (director of Landmark Park). All of these pictures and biographies can be digitally filed and saved to be presented through CD. Original letters and memorabilia that should be preserved should be offered to TSUD for preservation by Marty Oliff. By sending a copy to each of these individuals, the files will be backed up and used for the different purposes of those individuals...website, archives, photo collections, and living history. Attach the 1) photo and a 2) Word document (biography), for each individual. We would also like a 3) family group file and 4) ancestral file to accompany the photo 5) recipe special to this individual or your family (and pictures of the still...Truly it would be nice if there were pictures of a "set" table. That tells so much about the way folks lived.)
