History of Early Dothan by Mrs. A. D. Whiddon
Craig Remington, Head of the Cartographic Lab at the University of Alabama has a class that
locates, plots, etc. cemeteries all over the state of Alabama. They
have published a historical
atlas for Alabama and are continuously updating. They welcome error
corrections. The county
maps in this book are wonderful and the cemeteries are marked according
to status: documented,
unknown, known, found but no name, etc. These books are still
available for sale. Email
Craig at: cartlab@bama.ua.edu

Heritage Book of Houston
County, Alabama
. This
is one of 67 volumes or 68 counting the master index. Alabama is the
only state that has a
county book for each of its 67 counties. Each volume has its own
index. All counties are finished; but, the master index to all 67 books. These can be purchased at:

The Southeast Alabama Genealogical & Historical Society (SEAGHS)has just
completed (2 year project) an
Index to Mrs. Scott's book: THE HISTORY OF HENRY COUNTY, ALABAMA.
This is an
invaluable source for early Henry County and surrounds... and the old
book has never had an index.
This can be purchased by emailing: rdvalky@aol.com SEAGHS is completing its 25th year and publishes a quarterly called Wiregrass Roots, a benefit of membership.

The Houston County ALGenWeb site web coordinator is Gale Stafford-Wall. Many Houston families came from the neighboring counties that were divided to create Houston County so I am posting this note to the Houston, Geneva, Dale & Henry message boards.

I have communicated with many of you over the years researching my own roots in the southeast corner of Alabama. Please join me in posting available family and county information to the site. I have a new home page/index posted for the site. When I return from vacation I will continue with updating.

I am especially interested in posting the interments, maps and photos for the cemeteries, along with good directions / location information. If you can help with this, please send me an email at HoustonCoAl@cox.net. You will find 2 examples on the new cemetery index on the website:

http://rootsweb.com/~alhousto

If you live in the Houston County area and have access to records, indexes, etc. or would be willing to obtain information for posting, please let me know.

Thanks!
Gale
