All I know of this line was found on message boards.  If you have information or pictures regarding John J. Caudle of Jefferson County, Georgia, his ancestors and descendants, I would appreciate your sharing that information. sharmanramsey@gmail.com

The Caudle family were supposedly Loyalists and one of their sons was hanged. It appears that John J. Caudle changed his name to John J. Cottle in the late 1700's. Can anyone offer any documentation or Caudle family background. Thanks.

John (Eli) COTTLE/CAUDLE  received from the 1805 land lottery a royal grant in Montgomery Co. Georgia. Died there c. 1808, his wife Delilah received a land grant to Wilkinson, and she was living in Montgomery Co. during the 1807 land lottery. She died in Elbert Co. Georgia in 1810, leaving her estate to Lurinna COTTLE, who married Wiley SUTTON in 1812 in Jefferson Co. Georgia, where her COTTLE/CAUDLE cousins lived.


From: Margaret Harlow. A descendant of John and Elizabeth «b»Delilah«/b» Caudle through their daughter Mary Ann who married William Vaughan. They were also the parents of John Caudle, Jr., their only son. He was born in Dinwiddie County, VA and married Fredonia OHara in Montgomery C ounty, TN on 29 Dec 1859. is mother and father both died he re in Montgomery County. I have a deed made to him by his f ather John Caudle, Sr. before he died transferring all his property to him. He states he had already given all to his other children what he wanted them to have and that John , JR was his only son.
I lost track of John Jr. after the 1860 census and could ne ver find he sold the land his father and mother lived on. This was not unusual though because our court system was closed down during the Civil War. (I live in Montgomery County TN now).
My John Caudle came here several years before Benjamin did . I feel sure that Benjamin was a son of the brother of John, Sr. whose name was Sterling Caudle.
If you have any information on where John, Jr. and Fredonia went to when they left Montgomery County etc., I would love to share what I have on the family with you.
I believe, without searching my records, that Fredonia's parents were Daniel OHara and Hester Alexander.
I hope this isn't to late and you are still there and searching.
