Okay, so this is my guess at our lineage.  It is a jumping off point.  I would love to hear from someone who had definitive proof of Benjamin Lindsay's mother and father.  Circumstantial evidence points this way.

This information is from Mrs. Merle Shumuary, St. Johns, Arizona: I cannot give you any information on the date of the marriage of Jacob Lindsey and Elizabeth Abrell, their births or deaths. I know only that they were married before 1772. The first record I have of Jacob Lin d seyis 1760 when he witnessed a deed between Edmond Lindsey and Edmond Lindsey, Jr. He witn e ssed a deed in 1767 when Edmund Lindsey, Jr.,leased land to Edward Corder, Jr. (The deed w a s signed Edmund Lindseybut in the body of the deed it was Edmund Lindsey, Jr.) He signe d a s awitness again in 1767 when John and Mary Reagan of Frederick County gavea Power of Att or ney to John and Mary Reagan of Frederick County gave aPower of attorney to Edmon Lindsey , Jr ., saying they were moving to Berkeley County, S. Carolina, which is where John Lindsey m oved --thesection where they went is now Newberry County. In 1770 he signed as awitness whe n Ed mund, Sr., leased land to Edmund, Jr. In 1773 he signedas a witness when Edmond, Jr., l ease d land to John Thomas. (The reasonI vary the spelling of Edmund is that the deeds did. ) I n 1782 hewitnessed a deed between Edmond, Wr., and John Lindsey and the land wadescribe d i n 294 as Longmarsh, joining Jacob Lindsey. Elijah Lindseyalso witnessed this and it is t h e only record ever found of him. In1784, Jacob and Elizabeth his wife, sold their land t o E dmond Clare. Itwould be my guess that they went to South Carolina. Jacob Lindseywitness e d a deed but Thomas Lindsey and Lydia his wife, made in 1794,Newberry County, originally pa r t of Berkeley County, South Carolina.

The early Lindseys were in the Colonial Army in Virginia. I suppose inor near where Freder i ck County is now. After selling land in 1784, theymoved south to the Carolinas, Alabama a n d Georgia. Most of thefollowing descendents are of the Baptist or Primitive baptist belie f ,Methodist or Presbyterian.

In November of 1856, a slave woman was caring for the three sons of Benjamin and Mary Lindsey . One of the boys got caught in a cane milland lost his arm. Benjamin gave the woman a beating. A couple of weeks later, on the night of Sunday, December 7, the slave woman's husband ,Mose came into the house where Benjamin and Mary were sleeping and chopped Benjamin's he a d off.
